About the job
To lead R&D work in plant pathology and supporting crop production teams to achieve healthy crop. To carry out soil health diagnostics, trials, method development, maintaing pathogen isolate collections and contribute to pea resistance breeding. The role would require both independent work as well as collaboration with colleagues. The work will be primarily carried out at Agri R&D station located in Bjuv (Selleberga), Sweden.
Your responsibilities will be:
- Plan and design experiments for soil-born pathogens and bio-tests of soils for potential crop production, trial and seed production fields; based on data develop recommendations for Agri operation teams • Organise training to ensure pathogen diagnostics and management works efficiently
• Administrate and send samples to external laboratories (if additional pathogen tests required)
• Organize seed health assessment, in case of deviations – evaluate presence of biological causes
• Develop diagnostic and selection methods
• Schedule and carry out microbiological and in vitro work isolating, identifying and purifying plant pathological fungi – applied in resistance breeding and diagnostics
• Run the sterile (microbiology & in vitro) laboratory including supply of chemicals and materials and assure laboratory equipment maintenance
• Support with material preparation and data collecting work (incl. documentation) during trials in field and greenhouse
- Qualifications & Previous Experience
- Experience of practical work on trials both in field and greenhouse
- MS degree in a plant science related field (Agricultural Sciences, Crop and Soil Science, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Plant Pathology)
- Training and managing student labour
- Driver license category B
- Experimental design, and data acquisition
- Data management and documentation
- Microscopy
- Propagation in vitro (microorganisms, plants), sterile laboratory work
- Sampling – plant materials, soil samples
- Plant growing (greenhouse)
